About Nan Adams

In 1985, after raising two boys in Alaska, I received formal art training, which was my first exposure to art. After my first watercolor class, I was hooked. A few classes in photography and drawing followed.

A move to Seattle in 1987 and a busy career set my artwork on the shelf. After we retired in 1998 and moved to Surprise, AZ I was able to begin working again in the medium I love – watercolor. In the years since, I have attended more art classes, workshops and seminars in watercolor, pastels, alcohol ink, and photography.

A former roster artist of the West Valley Arts Council, I’m currently a juried member of the Vanguard Artists and a member of Arizona Art Alliance. My work has shown and won awards at various locations in Arizona and other parts of the country.  Besides many locations across the U.S., my art work hangs in Australia, Scotland, England and other countries around the world.

In 2014, I was honored to be one of 76 selected by the First Lady to be a member of the White House Decorating Team.

One of the most rewarding benefits of my ‘hobby’ has been meeting and enjoying the expertise/ critiques of fellow artists and instructors.

I look forward to many more days of experiencing the joy of painting and the comradeship of the art community. In choosing the subject of my composition, rather than observing an entire scene, I find myself taking notice of the objects/images within the scene. They are what interest me the most. I hope to convey my enthusiasm of detail to the viewers of my work.
